David Bowie Tribute Concert with Ann Wilson - Carnegie Hall
David Bowie will get the tribute concert he deserves when Carnegie Hall pays homage to the late singer in March. The concert was announced prior to the icon's death on Sunday. Ann Wilson of Heart, Cyndi Lauper, Jakob Dylan, Perry Farrell and The Roots will perform, according to the music hall's website.
The show will take place on March 31 at 8 p.m. The concert is a "benefit for a variety of music education programs serving underprivileged youth," according to the Carnegie Hall site. It will feature 20 artists who will all perform songs by Bowie. A separate website has more information about the concert and addresses Bowie's death after battling cancer for 18 months. "The unexpected death of David Bowie has turned this tribute, which we have worked on for the past 7 months, into a memorial concert," musicof.org said. "While the series has featured surprise appearances and performances of the honorees several times in the past, this year's concert will certainly be remembered as a poignant celebration of his music by his friends, peers, and fans." Bowie died at the age of 69 on Sunday after battling cancer for more than a year, his representative confirmed to ABC News.
"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer," the Jan. 10 statement said. Madonna, Elton John and The Rolling Stones are a few of the fellow musicians who paid homage to Bowie January 11 on social media.
